Ian Cole is an NHL defenseman for the Vancouver Canucks. At 6’1, 220 lbs., Cole has been an impact player since entering the NHL in 2010.

Born on February 21, 1989, Ian Cole grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan with his younger sister and his parents, Connie and Doug.

Cole played for the U.S. National Team Development Program from 2005-2007. He then joined the University of Notre Dame, finishing his college career with 69 points in 111 games.

Cole was the 18th overall pick in the 2007 NHL draft. Drafted by the St. Louis Blues, he made his NHL debut in 2010, and scored his first NHL goal in 2011.

Cole was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2015, where he helped the Penguins win back-to-back Stanley Cups. He was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets, and he then signed with the Colorado Avalanche.

After spending time with the Minnesota Wild and the Carolina Hurricanes, Cole played one year with the Tamp-Bay Lightning in 2022.

Ian Cole signed a one-year deal with the Vancouver Canucks for the 2023-24 season.
